Master Thesis: Ultra wideband hardware interface/transition
Mobile networks are used all over the world and is the corner stone for the networked society, where everything shall be connected. To support the vast amount of data expected in future networks, Ericsson is pushing the boundaries by integrating and combaining hardware (HW) to simplify and unify product flora to enable a flexible and cost efficiant solution to customers.
The ambition of the thesis work would be to explore and come up with HW design for an ultra wideband interface/transition to tranfer mmWave signals to/from PCB to/from waveguide structures. The ambition is to have as few number of low loss transition/interface that is covering at least 6-42GHz in a high performance, process tolerant, rubust and cost efficient way.
This thesis is divided into several steps with the end goal of showing a prototype of how a interface/transition can be realized and optimized to a ultrawideband structure.
The following steps are envisioned as part of the thesis work:
- Investigate and compare current research covering different types of wideband transitions/interfaces.
- Investigate usage of PCB structures/layers to increase bandwith of the design.
- Simulate and verify design in HFSS/ADS.
- Implement at least one design of test structures on PCB to enable comparison of simulation and measurement results.
- Analyze results of the tests and evaluate expected bandwidth gain.
The thesis will be concluded with a result presentation for the Ericsson R&D.
Master of science program student in electronics with knowledge in microwave circuit design. Knowledge in ADS/HFSS environment and measurement techniques on high frequency test structrures would be an asset but is not a strict requirement.
