Job Summary

Product Development Group Gateway (PDG GW) develops Control- and User Plane for Evolved Packet Gateway functionality, which handles packet data services in the access network.  The network node functions we develop are called EPG for 4G and SMF/UPF for 5G. Node deployment is carried out on native hardware as well as on virtual machines and containers in a cloud environment.


We are now looking for a System Manager that will work within the Gateway High Availability area.  You will be part of the SM competence group for High Availability where you collaborate with colleagues and share tasks and knowledge. You will also be working in close cooperation with System Architects and Product Owners as well as other stakeholders, managing requirements and influence future evolvement in the area.


Important areas within High Availability are how the node functions (EPG, SMF & UPF) handle e.g. Session Resilience, In Service Software Update and Geographical Redundancy. This is described in non-functional requirements. Currently a lot of work will focus on functionality, behavior and characteristics of the Cloud Native implementation.


Some of the challenges are simultaneously maintaining focus on different priorities, this includes communicating, inspiring and be active both in ongoing feature development and in studies needed to drive the area towards the product vision.


You will be part of shaping the future for Gateway products towards 5G!


Responsibilities & Tasks

You will involve in and make sure relevant work packages and internal studies are started to support the product visions for 5G and further development of 4G.


Main responsibilities are:

  • Support feature development with close interaction with the development teams, e.g. perform feature studies for new features
  • Drive system studies, feature studies and provide support to business regions
  • Identify/improve and manage requirements for the area, and take responsibility for selected system artifacts
  • Identify requirements on platforms and coordinate with PDG external parties with EPG/SMF/UPF dependencies
  • Monitor High Availability characteristics (both on our platforms and the products)
  • Handle Q&A on HA functionality e.g. related to Tenders or other customer requests.


Position Qualifications

To succeed, you need to have the following qualifications and skills:

  • MSc/BSc level in Computer Science or equivalent level of education
  • Knowledge and experience in Software development and test
  • Lean and Agile knowledge
  • Telecom and 3GPP knowledge
  • Cloud native technologies (e.g. Kubernetes) knowledge
  • Product Life Cycle Management knowledge
  • Requirement Management knowledge
  • Customer & Business Understanding
  • Relating & Networking skills
  • Knowledge Sharing, Communication and Presentation skills
  • Fluent in English, written and oral


And it is great if you have these additional skills and experiences:

  • Knowledge about EPG and/or other Packet Core products
  • Knowledge about 5G
  • Customer interaction experience
