The 5G Radio Access Network is relying on three different bands: low band, midband and high band. While the high band NR solutions are extremely appealing because of their enormous spectrum availability, low latency and flexibility, they offer limited coverage, and great user experience mostly under line-of-sight (LOS) conditions.
The high frequencies are more vulnerable to fading and propagation loss. Another factor that limits the NR high band coverage is the power limitation, and the antenna design (Massive MIMO).
The objective will be to design a coverage optimization algorithm for high frequencies, based on the Ericsson Radio Solution framework.
The algorithm will be designed and evaluated using simulation environment
- Excellent knowledge of Matlab.
- Basic understanding of machine learning and/or convex optimization techniques.
- Basic knowledge of beamforming techniques and 5G radio interface.
- Master of science program students (2) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with knowledge in Wireless Communications and signal processing.
