Background

NR/5G is the next generation radio access technology that is expected to provide very high data rate along with many new services. This high data rate and more provisions for new services also brings in new complexities and challenges at both the base station and user equipment (UE). One of the main challenges is the ability to support transmission/reception with very large bandwidth (100 MHz and more). From the power consumption point of view, it is not convenient to have the signal transmission/reception with high bandwidth all the time. To support transmission/reception on variable bandwidth NR introduced the concept of bandwidth part (BWP), but this will have an impact on the massive beamforming and there is a need for a detailed analysis on using bandwidth part together with the massive beamforming.

Description

The purpose of this thesis work is the following:

  • Understand the concept of bandwidth parts in NR
  • Develop a simulation model to support MU MIMO with bandwidth parts
  • Analyze the impact of bandwidth parts on MU-MIMO performance
  • Analysis of the simulation results for different channel conditions

Qualifications

We are searching for two students that are close to finish a M.Sc. degree in Wireless communication, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar program. Knowledge in Matlab and Python is an advantage. Fluency in English is required, as well as good analytical capability and good social skills.
