To create a micro-service, some knowledge on containers and container orchestrator is required, taking a considerable amount of time to master it. In contrast, serverless, the new trend in cloud computing, aims to abstract away all service configuration intricacies making the deployment more straightforward. With this concept, developers focus only on application logic leaving the deployment burden to serverless frameworks.
In the literature, there are plenty of open-source serverless frameworks that work in different manners.
- The proposal is to study several serverless frameworks and create a short survey about their differences and distinct architectures.
- A practical hands-on evaluation must be performed, based on scenarios yet to be defined, to gather real data aiding on decision making. For example, we want answers to some questions like
- How these frameworks behave in the presence of high traffic load?
- Do they scale well?
- Are the resources freed when not required?
- What are the additional resources cost of serverless when comparing with ordinary micro-service solutions?
The findings and conclusions shall be documented in a thesis report and presented to the hosting organization. Are you up for this challenge?
