Goal with master thesis

 

A major challenge in 5G which arises with increased data-rates in Radio Access Networks (RAN) is wireless backhauling in the transport network. Most commonly, this is done via point-to-point microwave links with dense modulation formats, large bandwidth, and MIMO in order to cope with the demands. This further impacts the demands on signal purity to a level which is reaching the limits dictated by physics as imperfect analogue radio-components imposes impairment on the signal waveform.

 

In this Master thesis project, we are aiming to investigate possible solutions for end-to-end learning of a microwave backhaul link, including the wireless channel and transmit/receive impairments such as amplifier distortion, phase noise, center-frequency offset, precoding, etc. The second step is then to benchmark this against conventional solutions.

 

We are looking for 1-2 students with a strong interest in communication theory and machine learning. The thesis will be performed at Ericsson Research, Lindholmen.

Qualification

 

Education: Final year student in relevant M.Sc. program. Practical experience is not required. 

Strong interest in communication theory and machine learning

Good analytical skills and ability to quickly acquire new knowledge and apply it in the job 

Good programming skills preferably in Matlab. Knowledge in C/C++ is further meriting.

Good communication skills in written and spoken English
