Master Thesis - Embedded Software Testing

Job Description

Date: Oct 14, 2019

Background

Ericsson is the largest creator and contributor of cellular standardized technology. Being a leader in radio infrastructure, Ericsson need to have research activities in device technology. Ericsson also need to keep an eye on the development of embedded system/IoT devices and how they operate in cellular networks.

For the purpose of understanding how devices operate in the cellular networks, we have on-going activities on characterization of different embedded system. The characterization needs rigorous testing using different instruments/platforms. Testing of different embedded systems, where different SW tools and instrumentation is used simultaneously, is being performed frequently. Thus, there is a need for synchronizing the different data logs and measurement results from the involved instruments to enable extraction of the instantaneous performance of the system under test.

Project Goal

Study, and create a software framework for data logging and data synchronization between different instruments and SW testers. Getting more knowledge on embedded systems and corresponding interaction between SW control and HW state changes.

Thesis work description

This thesis work is suitable for two students.

Study research papers, your own and other persons ideas to propose what framework that can be scaled in different test scenario where different instruments are used for embedded system testing. List limitations of different approaches for optimum scalable framework, to suggest if one frame works fits all or if different frameworks are needed for different test scenarios.

-          Propose a framework.

-          Develop the framework.

-          Evaluate the framework performance.

Qualifications

MSc Student in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Engineering Physics.

Interested in programming and instrumentation, and curious about what’s going on inside mobile devices.

The position will be based in Ericsson’s office in Lund, Sweden.
