Job Description

The Configuration Manager is responsible for the execution of the Ericsson Service Delivery Applications & Platforms Configuration Management process, ensuring it interfaces with all other relevant processes, reviewing the effectiveness and efficiency of the process and managing the process improvement cycle. 

The Configuration Manager is responsible for configuration management (CM) of both developmental and operational systems.  He/she recommends and utilizes automated CM tools to implement CM policies and procedures. The Configuration Manager develops and modifies Configuration Management plans, policies, and procedures and tailors them to the complexity and scope of each developmental or operational system.

Configuration Manager exercises CM discipline for the entire life cycle of systems, from the initial definition of requirements and capabilities of system baselines through the end-of-life of each system. This includes the periodic performance of configuration audits.

Candidates must possess excellent English, interpersonal, business management, and customer service skills. 

1Responsibility

  • Responsible for configuration management (CM) of developmental and operational systems
  • Provides configuration management planning
  • Develops or modifies CM plans, policies, and procedures tailored to the complexity and scope of the system and business needs
  • Defines provisions for configuration identification, change control, configuration status accounting, and configuration audits.
  • Identifies configuration items, implements change control, configuration status accounting, and configuration audits
  • Defines and agrees the service assets that will be treated as configuration items (CIs)
  • Plans and manages support for Asset & Configuration Management tools and related procedures
  • Implements CM discipline for the entire life cycle of systems from initial requirements/capabilities baselines to system end-of-life
  • Ensures that configuration data is available when and where it is needed to support other service management processes
  • Establishes and implements CM compliance standards
  • Monitors standards compliance, as well as change and release implementation
  • Evaluates baseline deviations and making recommendations for rectifying them
  • Regulates the change process so that only approved and validated changes are incorporated into product documents and related software, licenses, media, and other assets
  • Tracks all problems and changes in product documents/software and reports changes, controls standard operating procedures and current configurations
  • Uses or recommends automated CM tools to implement CM policies and procedures
  • Keeps the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) updated
  • Perform audits on CMDB and Configuration Items (CIs)
  • Provides training materials and facilitates training for Configuration Management process
  • Supports users with questions on tool and process issues.
  • Coordinates with Change management to ensure that all changes to the baselines go through appropriate change boards
  • Tracks all problems and changes in product documents/software and reports changes, controls standard operating procedures and current configurations
  • Assists in the development of metrics and reporting methodologies to measure process performance and improvement

2Required qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree and minimum of 10 years of work experience in Technology industry with a focus on IT infrastructure and operations and a basic understanding of business topology
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in Configuration Management with strong subject matter expertise in IT Service Management processes including Configuration Management, Change Management, Incident Management, Problem Management, and Release Management
  • 5+ years of overall experience in deploying, maintaining, implementing CMDB tool to map IT assets, hardware and application in an enterprise organization
  • Significant work experience with BMC CMDB, ADDM and modules supporting the ITIL Lifecycle, as well as a solid understanding of the platform's architecture and databases schemas to ensure Service Mapping is understood and devised.
  • Solid experience in the relationship between Assets and Configuration items; understanding where each fit in the lifecycle
  • Overall knowledge of ITIL's Service Design, Service Strategy, Service Transition, Service Operations, and Continual Service Improvement processes (ITIL v3). And a Minimum ITIL v3 Foundation certification
  • Solid understanding of IT operations principles, constructs and best practices
  • The ability to interact with regulatory bodies such as internal and external audit agencies to secure necessary approvals and decisions as and when required
  • Excellent teamwork and communication and information sharing skills. Strong interpersonal and employee relations skills as well as the ability to influence in a global environment. Strong process and organizational skills
  • Experience interacting directly with business leadership is required
  • Experience managing service delivery utilizing ITIL v3 best practices
