Job Summary:

The Market Area North America (MANA) Strategic Customer Engagement (SCE) Practice is Ericsson’s premier approach to serving the needs of our largest telecom and emerging customers in North America. As a Principal Consultant you will be a part of the extended MANA leadership team, support the MANA Head of Strategy & Commercial Management, be aligned to a specific customer unit (i.e. Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Rogers), and coordinate with the global SCE practice.  You will:

  • Advise tier I customers and industry partners on commercial and technology opportunities through leading high impact consultative engagements focused on:
  • Ideation and identification of industry-altering opportunities, wanted positions, key differentiation, and focus areas
  • Co-creation of solutions with customers, industry partners, and cross-Ericsson teams
  • Development of business cases and detailed investment thesis
  • Leading workshops with customers and partners c-level executives
  • Development and launch of POCs alongside customers and global Ericsson teams
  • Commercialization of opportunities that drive industry alternating revenue streams

     

  • Influence customers and Ericsson’s strategic actions, especially in emerging technologies (i.e. 5G, IoT, logistics, smart manufacturing, autonomous) that set the stage for creation of future revenue streams

     

  • Arm the Ericsson senior executive team on industry trends, customer priorities, and strategic options, building a continuously growing knowledge base that enables ongoing results-oriented interactions with c-level leaders across the industry

 

Engagements will primarily be project based, with a focus on 5G and IoT in 2019, and changing over time to the most strategic issues of the day. Additionally, you will become an expert in one or more strategic subjects (e.g. smart manufacturing, connected vehicles, etc.), developing and contributing knowledge to strategic engagements across MANA and globally. You will also leverage project and industry experience to strengthen the knowledge base of the broader Ericsson organization.

Preferred locations are Basking Ridge, NJ; Plano, TX or Santa Clara, CA.

Roles and Responsabilities:

  • On constant basis, analyze impacts of industry and societal developments on Ericsson’s major customers and Ericsson’s strategy.
  • Become the subject matter expert on a defined topic (i.e. smart manufacturing, connected vehicles) or functional area (i.e. business modelling, partnership development). Develop, maintain, and share insights across MANA, and provide input across Ericsson globally
  • Leverage industry knowledge, strategic analysis, and customer insights to engage, advise, and influence c-level executives (customers and Ericsson) on key strategic topics, pain points, and opportunities
  • Engage with customers to deliver actionable recommendations on their key strategic challenges
    • Be the day-to-day manager of consulting project activities. Lead project teams of analysts/consultants, subject experts, internal and external partners, and customer stakeholders
    • Coordinate Ericsson, customer, and partner resources to rapidly co-create MVP solutions, POCs, and trials that can transition into commercial products, maximizing Ericsson’s revenue streams
  • Deliver complex projects end-to-end

Skills, knowledge and experience to be successful in position

 

Industry and Technical Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of ICT ecosystem across North America, including: operators (fixed, mobile, MSO); major vendors (infrastructure, devices, chipsets); non-traditional players (Silicon Valley disruptors, cloud players, etc.); regulators (FCC, ISED); and financials players (investors, analysts, etc.)
  • Domain expertise in 5G and IoT
  • Industry knowledge of one or more verticals (listed below)

 Consulting Skills

  • Proven track record in leading and delivering management consulting projects, including project planning, problem structuring, and team and client management
  • Strategic advisory experience – able to develop & drive engaging discussions across range of audiences (CXO’s, domain experts, partners, etc.)
    • Exceptional storytelling skills – structure and synthesis of complex topics
    • Strong presentation skills – lead, moderate, and be a strong contributor to influence and drive key outcomes
    • Strategic business modelling – identification and analysis of value chain components, value distribution, and monetization models
    • Analytical / financial modelling – development, ownership, and refinement of complex financial and forecasting models

Leadership Skills

  • Strong executive presence to drive discussions at customers and Ericsson c-level
  • Strategic Thinker – superior analytical and problem-solving skills; solutions-oriented; able to balance short and long-term priorities

Background / Experience requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5-7 year track record leading and delivering consulting projects as part of a management consulting firm, or in business development, corporate strategy, or other key customer facing roles which include project planning, problem structuring, and team / client management
  • Excellent academic track record from globally recognized business and/or engineering schools, typically with an advanced degree (MBA, M.Sc.)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Expertise / experience in 5G, IoT and related domains
  • Industry vertical experience including logistics, transportation, manufacturing, smart cities, media / content and health care
  • Competent in design thinking, ideation techniques, and business model development
