Ericsson and the Baseband Infrastructure (BBI) organization are pleased to announce the opening of a new Software Development Center in the heart of Austin, TX to accelerate the path towards the commercialization of 5G! 

 

Ericsson is the early leader in bringing 5G to market and our Radio networks are built by a large amount of software systems, all of them with different requirements and characteristics. Some are standardized orchestration SW on COTS and others are specialized SW on proprietary massive parallel hardware executing radio algorithms. They all work together as the distributed brains of mobile internet. These systems make a plethora of fantastic challenges which all shape the learning playground for each of us working here. 

 

In BBI we provide a SW platform and toolset for EMCA (Ericsson Multi Core Architecture) SW development while focusing on our users and striving to make baseband development awesome. We do that by challenging the status quo and deploying our products continuously.  We believe in highly empowered and self-organized teams that are involved in all steps of development, from pre-study to deployment. Work is performed in close cooperation with our internal Ericsson users and peers. The platform and tools developed are used by several hundred baseband application developers (5G, LTE, WCDMA and GSM) daily and soon also in adjacent domains.  The BBI organization of roughly 200 people, is part of PDU 4G5G and based in Sweden, Canada, Poland and now also in Austin! 

 

Job Summary

 

The organization is growing, and we are looking for a Section Manager for our new site in Austin. We are looking for a passionate leader who cares about well-crafted software and building a great environment for the people that build it.  You will be an important part of the Baseband Infrastructure Leadership Team committed to coach and develop highly competent, result and customer focused teams enabling them for success.  Focus for your teams will be the tools set for the EMCA SW developers. Leading in the BBI area requires close collaboration with HW development and the baseband community as well as the several open source communities.  You will also be expected to take a holistic view for the completeness of Baseband Infrastructure.  We are at the same time recruiting developers, so you will have the ability to build a very strong team from the bottom up!

 

 Responsibilities

 

  • Define and lead business and organizational strategies, follow up and act on these to improve
  • Create an environment that empowers and motivates people and teams through coaching, energy, clear expectations and support
  • Manage delegated product responsibility in all aspects: quality, design, functionality, maintainability, characteristics.
  • Communicate the department’s and company’s goals and strategies to the organization including change management
  • Handle staffing of the organization and Individual performance management of employees

 

Qualifications

 

  • You have strong personal drive eager to contribute where and when possible, both inside and outside your formal framework of responsibilities
  • You have extensive SW development experience and interest, including Agile practices
  • You have a deep technical background and interest in related and adjacent areas
  • You are an effective and transparent communicator
  • Master of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience with a recent successful track record in R&D Line Management of SW Development

 

Additional Qualifications Desired

 

  • Experience from ASIC development
  • Experience of Open Source development
  • Experience from SW development using partners
