Job Description

Date: Nov 30, 2018

Background

Requirements on size and weight on telecommunication equipment enclosures are continuously increasing. One way of improving in this area is to consider replacing the traditional screw fastener concept for the different parts of the equipment such as Printed Board Assembly (PBA), EMC covers and exterior enclusure covers with other means of fastening.

Thesis Description

The main target is a more compact and less costly overall design of the fasteners in the equipment. As study object an well known reference product currently in volume production using a traditional way of fastening, e.g. with screws, from the Ericsson Radio System (ERS) product portfolio will be used. The student should start with getting familiar with electronics enclosures in general and mobile telecommunication products enclosures specifically. Once that is done the next step is to start the brainstorming and idea generation process with the goal to replace the traditional screw fastener with other means of fastening some or all parts of the equipment while still complying to mechanical structural integrity, ageing, cooling, electro magnetic compliance (EMC), cost, assembly and repair aspects.

Qualifications

This project aims at students in mechanical engineering or similar. Experience in using mechanical CAD tools, such as Creo Parametrics or similar is required. Knowledge about FE simulations and tools within that area is a merit.
