Master Thesis - Research on Network Distributed Video Coding
Master Thesis: Compression algorithms for network distributed video coding.
We are looking for candidates for a Master Thesis on video encoding to research video compression technologies for network distributed video coding. Video has over the last year become the main focus of internet traffic. A key aspect is the so-called Video on-Demand where users can watch content at any time on any device. To serve different devices and different connections a provider has to make a multitude of versions of the same video available. There are several options for a provider to make these different versions, also called representations available. One option is guided transcoding. Here a control stream is generated for each representation which strongly reduces the required storage on the server while keeping the computational complexity of generating the video stream for the user at a reasonable low level.
See the info in this link more details.
The objective of the thesis is to study different guided transcoding models. The work should determine comparable test results and improve at least one of the models by finding correlations between the codec and the guided transcoding architecture, and developing new coding tools based on these correlations. Another part of the thesis is to evaluate how guided transcoding schemes compare for different codecs.
