Master Thesis - Quantum domain specific language
Many IT (information technology) companies are exploring the benefits of quantum computers by offering simulation platforms and software frameworks for quantum computing. The quantum languages developed so far are mostly based on python, ex. ProjectQ from ETH Zurich, IBM QIS. If we think that a quantum algorithm is expected to be run multiple time in a parallel manner, then a sequential language will find a limitation and we should look into parallel type of compilers.
Erlang is a programming language used to build massively scalable soft real-time systems with requirements on high availability. In that matter, Erlang might be the right software framework for quantum computing.
Your goal will be to assess if Erlang is an efficient language for writing and executing quantum algorithms.
The thesis work consists of several items:
- Comprehensive literature/patent theoretical study of state-of-the art in quantum programming languages and algorithms
- Test available quantum languages- define pros and cons
- Study what it would be required for Erlang to be executed in a quantum computer
- Feasibility study on QErlang
Qualifications and Experience
Educational background: last year of Master degree studies in computer science / engineering
Required programming skills: Erlang, python
Languages: the candidate must be proficient in the use of spoken and written English
The work is expected to start in January/February 2019. The work is proposed for one student for a duration of 6 months. Location is at Ericsson Research in Stockholm (Kista), Sweden.
