Master Thesis Wideband High-efficiency Power Amplifiers for 5G Radio Systems
Ericsson is one of the leading telecommunication technology providers, with 40% of the world’s mobile traffic carried through our networks. We perform cutting edge research on 5G radio technology such as radio-frequency and microwave power transmission. We invite passionate science and engineering students in postgraduate programs to participate in our power amplifier (PA) research as thesis work.
There is an increasing demand of multi-band/wideband Doherty PAs that are able to simultaneously operate at different frequency bands and can accommodate signals with larger peak-to-average power ratios (PAPRs) in the range of 7-9dB. In this thesis, we will design, implement, and experimentally validate a wideband Doherty PA prototype using state-of-the-art microwave techniques.
Objectives of the proposed Master Thesis:
- Investigate the different possible topologies for wideband Doherty PAs
- Demonstrate the best topology by designing, implementing, and measuring a wideband Doherty PA using GaN-HEMT technology
- Pre-study and literature survey
- Theoretical study supported by simulations
- Selection of one topology to be designed, implemented, and
- One or Two students
The candidates are expected to be in the final year of a Master of Science program in electrical engineering (or equivalent) and having
- Strong background in Microwave Engineering
- Knowledge of circuit analysis and transmission line theory
- Experience in designing microwave circuits
- Skills in using simulation tools such as ADS
- Starting January 2019
- Six months
