Purpose & Background
The fifth generation of mobile networks will support many different use cases, for example evolved mobile broadband, manufacturing, and automotive. It will have improved latency, capacity and density compared to previous generations. This thesis aims at understanding and investigating the JSON parts of the 5G protocols, as well as investigating and comparing open source Erlang components.
The Core Network’s main task is to connect the Radio Access Network (RAN) to Data Networks (DNs), so that User Equipment (UEs) can use the services of the Data Network, for example Internet access.
In the Core Network there are several network functions that communicate using standardized protocols. In 5G these protocols are service based interfaces using HTTP2 and JSON.
Erlang is a functional programming language originally developed within Ericsson for telecom applications. Erlang has been released as open source and has evolved to be used in a variety of applications.
This thesis aims at understanding and investigating the JSON parts of the 5G protocols.
- Investigate how JSON is used in the 5G Core Network and design a probable use case.
- Investigate open source Erlang components, comparing performance and conformance.
Requirements/ key qualifications
An interest in functional programming languages.
We believe this thesis is done by two students working as a team together with us.
