Who we are?      

 

Board Power at Lindholmen is responsible for Power product development towards most of the Ericsson product portfolio. We are a part of Ericsson’s global design organization and engaged in developing products for the present and future mobile networks.

Board Power are developing products for the internal stakeholders; Radio, Microwave and Baseband

 

The power products we develop are both for AC and DC and consists of on board design. Our products are intended for global use and operates in the range from 50W up to power systems of 2kW. The power systems are the engine of the telecom infrastructure and a prerequisite for the Networked Society.

 

Description:

 

Background: The 5G development is ongoing with a huge potential market. Advanced Antenna System (AAS) and Antenna Integrated Radio (AIR) unit are important products of 5G. To achieve higher system integration, higher power density and higher efficiency are required for the power supplies of AAS and AIR products, and such requirements bring more challenges to the design of the AC/DC PSU used in telecom industry.

The AC/DC PSU in telecom industry is usually implemented by a two-stage approach, which includes a power factor correction (PFC) stage followed by an isolated dc-dc stage. To improve PSU’s efficiency and power density, the switching frequency of both stages shall be pushed to higher frequency regions, then the selection of the most optimized topology becomes one of the critical issues that should be investigated for AC/DC PSU design.

Goal with master thesis: The goal for this work is to investigate the most optimized topologies for AC/DC PSU with different power levels (e.g. below 500W, around 1kW and 2kW) by considering efficiency, power density and cost.

Working methods: Theoretical and simulation models shall be used to investigate the topology candidates in different power levels. The efficiency curves and power losses shall be calculated and analyzed to verify the topology investigation.

 

Qualification:

  • Education: Master within Electrical engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Science or similar
  • An eager interest in power products
  • English skills, both oral and written

 

Duration and location:

  • Period: 1 semester, 30 ECTS points
  • Starting date: first quarter of 2019
  • Number of students: Suitable for 1 or 2 students
  • Ericsson Lindholmen science park
