Master Thesis: Radio Network Performance Studies
This is an opportunity for a Master of Science student to work with technology leading radio network performance modeling in the mobile industry.
The next-generation wireless technology 5G is developed to enable use cases such as broadband experience everywhere anytime, smart vehicles (transport & infrastructure), media everywhere, critical control of remote devices and interaction human-IoT. 5G systems are to be operated in a wide range of frequency bands and one example of new bands is mmWave bands, e.g. 26-40GHz where spectrum allocations, up to 1GHz, are expected to be very large.
An advanced Matlab-based real network simulator is used in the thesis projects to model key technologies and to evaluate the system performance of 5G networks.
The first thesis project will focus on enhancing the real network simulator by developing and analyzing algorithms to enable import and processing of digital maps for use in real network simulations.
Two further thesis projects will focus on the use of key technologies in a real network deployment to ensure consistent 5G user experience:
- Deployment of 5G repeaters/relays for indoor coverage
- Use of enhanced beamforming techniques in mm-Wave systems
The projects are intended for a total of up to 3 master thesis students, and are expected to be performed in Kista, starting in 2019 Q1 and ending 6 months later.
You should be a Master of Science student in electrical engineering, applied physics or similar. Courses in wireless communication theory and signal processing as well as experiences of communication systems are considered valuable merits but are not required.

Fluent in English, both written and spoken
Good matlab skills
Good communications skills
