JOB SUMMARY

 

To write and record scripts across a broad range of TV and film output, and to assist in the delivery of Red Bee's Audio Description service.  Audio Description (Narrative Visualization Writing) is a second soundtrack which describes onscreen action, locations and characters and is interwoven with the program dialogue, music and sound effects to assist the visually impaired audience.

 

A Narrative Visualization Writer (Audio Describer) is an employee who watches a broadcast program (television show, movie, etc.), then writes and records an audio description script for the visually impaired, who would otherwise be unable to access this media.

 

In this role you will:

 

  • Write and record scripts for a wide variety of television shows/movies
  • Contribute ideas on editorial practice during group discussions and media reviews.
  • Work to gain a clear understanding of the media material and, where necessary, to check factual detail and editorial accuracy.
  • Watch or read fellow Audio Describers’ work and give feedback.
  • Work with and support the person recording the Audio Description to ensure that s/he achieves the best product.
  • Train to fully learn how to use the voicing software and monitoring systems to ensure that s/he achieves the best product in terms of audio quality.
  • Explain audio description to production teams and gain their support in the preparation of described programs.
  • Operate a range of technical equipment, to ensure the preparation and delivery of audio-description scripts and voiced files.
  • Support the Audio Description Production Management team in planning for new audio-described output.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Access Services to ensure the meeting of objectives.

 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • An excellent standard of written and spoken English
  • Excellent proof-reading skills
  • A clear and confident speaking voice
  • An interest in, and a wide knowledge of, a very wide range of television output

 

Red Bee Media (A Part of Ericsson) specializes in the delivery and promotion of digital media and offers the complete range of services required to promote, playout and provide access to broadcast content across all media, from television to mobile phones.

 

Our UK team is the largest playout and channel management business in the UK, providing critical services to several broadcasters including the BBC, BT Sport, UKTV, Channel 4 and Five.

 

Access Services provide a vital service which makes programs accessible on a range of Canadian and British output on various channels, working to make media accessible for deaf, hard of hearing and visually impaired audiences.  Our North American flagship office is in Duluth, GA and currently provides closed captioning for both UK and North American markets and is currently expanding into audio description.
