About this opportunity

DNEW Standards & Technology is responsible for securing future technology leadership for the Ericsson Development Unit Networks (DNEW) within the Business Area Networks (BNEW). A part of achieving this is to perform concept development and standardization for Mobile Broadband and beyond, typically impacting product decisions and design in the 3-5 years perspective. Standards & Technology also manages Ericsson’s projects for standardization in 3GPP, IEEE, ITU, IETF, MEF, BBF, ORAN, ONAP and so on.

Concepts for new spectrum usage are being discussed in 3GPP standardization and spectrum regulation for 5G Advanced and towards 6G. Examples of such techniques are full duplex technology, flexible and dynamic UL/DL pairing schemes, and dynamic spectrum sharing schemes. Ericsson is actively shaping emerging technologies in standardization and regulation fora, as well as preparing our technology base to support new concepts in future products. BNEW DNEW S&T is now looking for a researcher to drive and participate in Ericsson's spectrum related standardization and regulation activities taking roles as standardisation concept developer or standardisation delegate in relevant fora. The position is based in Stockholm, Sweden.

What you will do

  • Perform, document and communicate research studies, measurements or computer simulations to further develop and evaluate new spectrum concepts 
  • Create new technical solutions for new spectrum usage and protect them with Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
  • Prepare technical recommendations and participate as a delegate in external standardization meetings, such as 3GPP RAN1, RAN2 or RAN4
  • Supervise and coach other researchers
  • Collaborate with product development teams in Ericsson
  • Develop or contribute to technology strategies and standardization strategies
  • Develop or contribute to evaluation tools, demonstrators or test beds if needed


You will bring

  • Education: PhD, Licentiate degree or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Technical Physics or equivalent
  • Work experience: A proven track record within 4G/5G radio interface standardization in 3GPP or a similar SDO, with focus on concept development in signal processing, radio transmission characteristics and spectrum coexistence aspects (5-10 years of work experience)
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to acquire new knowledge and apply it in the job
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
  • Ability to formulate problems and solve them independently
  • Creativity, innovation approach and ability to work independently
  • Ability to deliver high quality results under deadlines
  • Ability to develop and drive new ways of working, to produce research results in a more efficient way

  • Applying expertise & technology in developing new radio communication concepts


Additional Requirements:


Ability to travel to global standardization meetings, mainly in Europe, North America or Asia
