Our Exciting Opportunity
The possibility to predict data volume, as described below, would be very beneficial to scheduling as well as many other functions. Several scheduling mechanisms are already in place in MAC layer specifications. BSR (Buffer Status Report) is one such mechanism that communicates from the UE to the Network carrying the information, how much data needs to be sent out. The Network would allocate the bare minimum amount of resources if they are available. However, allocating too much or too little Up-Link resources lead to waste of resources. The purpose of this master’s thesis project is to investigate and develop ML models for predicting optimal BSR by using attributes such as packet type, size, or time of arrival for scheduling more optimal buffer size allocations.

 

You will

  • develop a mechanism for capturing a diverse traffic pattern dataset from a simulator
  • evaluate different algorithms from the literature suitable for predicting optimal BSR allocations
  • test the developed algorithms on real data
  • explore both currently available scheduling approaches as a baseline and evaluate analytically against this baseline, state-of-the-art machine learning model predictions. The algorithms will be tested both in traffic generated by simulators and real live network data.

To be successful in the role you must have

  • MSc studies in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Automatic Control, Electrical and Computer Engineering or similar area.
  • Strong programming skills in MATLAB and Java.
  • Skills or course on research methods.
  • Courses in the topics of Machine Learning, Statistics, Wireless Networks are a merit.
  • Solid communication skills.
  • Fluent English.
