Our Exciting Opportunity

At Ericsson we are developing systems that use beamforming technology to improve system performance in radio networks. Beamforming enables a mobile communication system to better utilize the bandwidth and gain better coverage. Beam-forming comes in different variants e.g. SU-MIMO and MU-MIMO. Part of the thesis work will be to dive deeper into these methods and provide an accessible description of them. In test systems used for verifying beam forming different tools are used to simulate the transport of the RF signal through the air. One of these tools is the Butler Matrix that is used to simulate directions.
The purpose of this master thesis is to compare how different types of test equipment influence the theoretical and ideal beamforming model.

You will

•    Perform detailed study and analysis codebook based on reciprocity-based beamforming
•    Build a location-based model for different types of beamforming
•    Apply the model for the system under test (SUT) and collect data
•    Assess the validity of the model using a graphical presentation
•    Investigate the impact of the imperfect test tools in the system

•    Report to Product Development Leader

To be successful in the role you must have

•    Knowledge in Matlab (an advantage)
•    Fluency in English
•    Good analytical capability
•    Good social skills

We are searching for two students that are close to finishing their M.Sc. degree in Wireless communication, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a similar program.
