About this opportunity

 

The upcoming 6G networks are envisioned to be more performant and handle a larger set of use cases than what today's 5G technology can do. To succeed, the control must be highly automated. Data-driven operations will be required to make this a reality. Technology components such as AI and ML are crucial in these large and sophisticated systems. Furthermore, very large datasets are required for training purpose in order to build efficient AI/ML systems.

To this end Ericsson Research and Umeå University has set out to build a community around operations data. The first step was the WCIB project where we crafted one of the largest open repositories of live operational data. This made the news both at SVT and TV4! The community now grows as we invite external partners to share their data on the WCIB data portal.

 

What you will do

 

With more partners joining it is evident that a more sophisticated design for the portal is needed. For instance, it must support setting and enforcing various access policies for the stored data. Data can also be sensitive from a competitive or integrity point of view and leakage is not acceptable. In this thesis project you will design and build a cloud based platform for secure storing and data sharing. This includes incorporation of modules for data anonymization, fine-grained access control, and integration with some framework for data processing and analysis.

 

You will bring

 

We are looking for a self-motivated and creative student with the following qualifications:

 

  • Master student in the area of Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or similar.
  • Hands-on programming experience (Python)
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to work independently
  • A curious mentality and a genuine interest to apply your knowledge and creativity on an exciting problem in the intersection of telecom and cloud!
  • You should be interested in prototyping of a large scale AI system and have a good understanding of Linux, Python and preferably also NodeJS.
  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written communication
