About this opportunity
The Research Area Networks within Ericsson is responsible for end-to-end architectures and protocols for the radio access network, core network, transport, and cloud, and on how to optimize, handle, and orchestrate networks and network functions based on analytics, policies, and machine intelligence algorithms.
We also drive standardization in these areas, cooperate with leading academic institutions, develop prototypes and testbeds, and provide concepts and general expertise for Ericsson products and business units.
We are looking for an Experienced Researcher to join an Ericsson research team in the UK and help in building competence, create novel concepts, establish a local contact network, and develop capabilities to ensure Ericsson´s technology leadership towards an intelligent 6G future network platform, providing limitless connectivity with focus on radio access networks and its interfaces.
The focus of this position lies in research work on wireless system architecture, protocol design and standardization for enhancing 5G towards 6G, supporting denser deployments and improving sensing and positioning capabilities.
This includes research in the areas of network densification with emerging technologies like distributed and large array MIMO systems, 6G deployment challenges, joint communication and sensing, positions, and applying AI/ML technologies for the RAN.
What you will do
- Conduct research studies on new concepts and technologies for 6G Radio Access Network (RAN) architecture and implementations, and protect research results by IPR (Intellectual Property Rights)
- Support the site manager in the establishment of a new Ericsson Research site in the UK and an effective research community network in the UK telecom ecosystem
- Work in our world-class cross-disciplinary teams on future-looking and groundbreaking technologies utilizing outstanding assets such advanced simulators and laboratories
- Represent Ericsson in relevant external fora including standardization bodies like 3GPP and O-RAN, UK and EU projects, university collaborations, as well as engagement with customers
You will bring
- Education: MSc or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or similar with a good research track record
- A positive approach with a strong dedication to research and innovation
- Good expertise in 3GPP-based mobile communication systems with a focus on RAN architecture
- Academic network in the UK ecosystem and excellent communication and presentations skills
- Strong analytical skills and interest in acquiring new knowledge and applying it at work
- Founded track-record in performing research studies, developing research strategies, IPR, and research innovation
- Competence and experience in link- and system-level simulation
- Creativity to formulate problems and tackle them independently and in collaboration in a team with varied strengths and external partnerships
- Experience with standardization is a plus
