Team Description & Purpose of Role:

EMP stands for Ericsson Managed Player.
It is an aaS OTT TV platform offering Live TV and VoD capabilities (plus associated services) to operators and broadcasters that need to deliver such services to their end-users.

EMP enables OTT service on iOS, Adroid, Flash, HTML5, Chromecast, AppleTV, Smart TVs.

The role is Development and CSI activities with customer 3pps (content providers) and EMP Development.
EMP platform has its generic flows for content ingest (Video Assets, Posters, Metadata). However, depending on the customer content providers, specific flows/adaptations are needed to accommodate their needs. The subject of customer adaptations will not necessarily be limited to the ingest flows, tasks can vary depending on customer requirements and business model.

This CSI and development work (together with lifecycle management) will be targeted by this position. 


Job Responsibilities:

Work with EMP Development team in order to keep track of any changes on EMP code during bi weekly sprints, perform regression tests in several environments as well as keep track of the developed code and create/update existing or new documentation related to  the functionalities developed, use the same code repository and documentation repository, take part in release and change management and also work directly with the 3pp’s (content providers) as besides developing the code, testing it and perform integration activities he also needs to be the interface  between EMP Development and 3PP development.

Support EMP Cloud Ops team with configuration related activities or possible bugs or failed integrations.

This includes:

  • Interact with other teams in order assess new opportunities and participate in requirements gathering.
  • Solution analyze and effort estimate for the requests.
  • Low level design for the applications.
  • Development for the requests and bug fixing on the existing applications.
  • Provide work instructions and improvements of the processes.
  • Management and implementation of new automatic scripts and applications.
  • Verify and implement configuration changes at the request of the customer or when is needed for performance reasons.
  • Coordinate and work together with other teams such as: 2nd line of support, 1st level support, Testing.
  • Installation, tuning and troubleshooting of complex software applications.


Experience Required:

Competence needed: Java, Docker, XML/XSD, Jenkins, Junit

Agile methodologies

Familiarity with Azure/AWS


  • Experience in development, production, and testing (SIT, Pre-Production) according to the knowledge of the methodologies and processes related to management of production systems; work experience gained in companies and projects in IT, telecommunications, industrial, etc. with an autonomous organization of IT operations
  • Previous experience in IT environment in a relevant field such as applications administration and development.
  • Experience in systems integration, including management of issues of interconnection, communication, etc.
  • Previous experience in the use of procedures for Configuration Management
  • Experience designing and / or testing of complex software applications
  • Strong level of OS knowledge: UNIX (Sun Solaris, HP-UX), Linux, Windows
  • Experience with scripting languages: Ksh, Bash, Perl
  • Experience with SOAP and REST
  • Able to understand N-tier and 3-tier architectures
  • Good knowledge of XML/ XSL/ XSLT
  • Experienced with JMS, JNDI, Web Services
  • Good level of knowledge of TCP/IP suite
  • High level of expertise of Web Servers, Application Servers and Middleware applications such as: Apache, Tomcat, JBoss.
  • Good experience with Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL
  • Good knowledge of Java programming languages.
  • Familiar with well-known services: ssh, ftp, NFS, Samba
  • Experienced with Git and Subversion

Person Specification:

  • Relevant degree or above in Telecom, IT or electronic engineering.
  • Flexible in changing work patterns and demands.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to travel.
