Our Exciting Opportunity

Baseband Infrastructure, BBI, provides middleware and tools to base station application designers. The users develop features for all standards from 2G and forward but with focus right now on 5G. The baseband application runs on EMCA (Ericsson Many Core Architecture) which is our own high-performance hardware. Our mission is to provide both a platform that fully utilizes the powerful EMCA chip and an efficient development environment. The LLVM (Low Level Virtual Machine)/Clang-based compiler eco system is a vital part in this mission.

Ericsson uses various compute machine architectures (x86, ARM, PPC, for example) and compilers (Clang, different versions of gcc for different targets) across DNEW. There is a need for a dedicated senior specialist role to focus on Code Analysis architecture, planning, tools integration, and conformance strategies to meet customer expectations for Security and Reliability. Security in the RAN network is of increasingly importance to Ericsson, our customers and the society. The RAN networks need to be protected from cyberattacks, unauthorized data access or manipulation.

A strong technology leadership is needed to evolve Code Analysis Technology which focuses on code quality and detection of security issues using compiler front-end tools.

You will

  • Driving the evolution of Code Analysis architectures, especially EMCA, LPP and other Baseband and BBI architecture specializations
  • Actively contributing to the architecture and design of the code analysis portions of the compiler, code analysis interfaces to the back end, and end-user use cases within Ericsson
  • Representing Code Analysis in Baseband level forums in the role of a Software Architect
  • Protecting Ericsson’s Intellectual Property in the area, where appropriate, by filing patents on innovative solutions
  • Driving continuous improvement of Code Analysis within Baseband, and DNEW where appropriate, including performance, capacity, observability, and supportability
  • Act as a mentor and competence developer in the area within Ericsson
  • Actively participate in Open-Source development activities, where appropriate, to keep Ericsson’s interests aligned with Open-Source Development activities
  • Actively work with Cloud & Inner Loop architects to define visions that are in alignment with Ericsson’s business and technical goals
  • Actively work with the Academic Community to explore use of active research areas for Ericsson’s LLVM/Clang based code analysis tools
  • Maintaining knowledge of best industry practices for detection of security issues in C/C++ code using clang static analysis, tidy, and diagnostics. Suggest, make improvements to our compiler to maintain best industry practices in this area
  • Maintain internal communications with other Ericsson Compiler development teams, and other compiler developers at other companies (where appropriate) to maintain best current practice within our own compiler tool chain

The position holder has the authority to:

  • Select architecture and design/implementations to be used by advanced prototyping activities
  • In collaboration with other Baseband and BBI architects and specialists, select the most appropriate architecture/design/implementation to be introduced in the product
  • Drive long term strategies for integration of code analysis tools into build and Test system to facilitate world class developer experience
  • Represent Ericsson’s technical interests to the LLVM/Clang Open-Source community when proposing new architectures or changes as needed, insofar as these discussions do not conflict with revealing Ericsson’s intellectual property
