Our Ericsson R&D Athlone Campus have a phenomenal opportunity with our dedicated applied research team for a Data Scientist / Machine Learning research specialist!

Our new Research Engineer in Analytics and Machine Learning will work within the Network Management Lab. Successful candidates will carry out cutting-edge research, craft innovative solutions for network management problems by applying sophisticated analytics and machine learning techniques to develop proof-of-concepts.

As a part of global Ericsson conglomerate, the Ericsson Software Campus in Athlone, Ireland has over 900 Engineers onsite and is the Operator Support System (OSS) headquarters within Ericsson globally and the main development centre for OSS Product suites. The OSS is the global market leader in mobile telecoms network management. The OSS system is delivered into 320 operators in 150 countries and manages over 1 Billion subscribers.

Within above mentioned OSS headquarters, Network Management Lab (NM Lab) carries out cutting-edge research and development in network management domain. NM Lab has taken part in various European Union Research projects, has led European Celtic telecommunication research projects and hosted many Marie-Curie researchers. The NM Lab provides an excellent balanced environment between work and research-career-growth within a world’s leading telecommunication organization. To that end, NM Lab researchers have organised and chaired numerous IEEE workshops and similar event series, participated in many Technical Program Committees in leading IEEE/ACM conferences, have published extensively in reputed journals/conferences and have produced many patents in the past years.

Analytics and Machine Learning is one of the research domains within NM Lab. Within this research domain, in the contexts of network management, researchers have devised brand-new concepts, methodologies, built prototypes and have performed customer trials. On daily basis, researchers work on real world network management problems, analysing very large, real data sets to come up with innovative solution pushing the boundaries of the state-of-the-art. Our successful candidate will become a key player in this team and will get a rare opportunity gain industrial research experience in a world leading networking and telecommunications company.

You will

  • Be joining an outstanding team of 8 researchers (4 PhD-level researchers and 4 companion engineers) in the Data/ML field.
  • Develop and discover new ways of using machine learning algorithms on data sets (clustering, anomaly detection, etc.)
  • Become an indispensable driving force in the latest developments and groundbreaking research as a highly valued member of our research team.

To be successful in the role you must have

  • A PhD or a Master’s degree in computer science or in a related field
  • Excellent research experience in Telecoms domain and experience in Horizon 2020 (H2020) Projects
  • Experience in machine learning domain (e.g., in R or Weka or similar machine learning languages/frameworks, TensorFlow etc.)
  • Excellent exposure to computer systems, networks and programming (e.g., Java, Python, Kubernetes, microservices etc)
  • Experience in building prototypes, simulators and proof-of-concepts to validate research concepts
  • Sound analytical and system design skills are essential
  • Strong capabilities and eagerness to learn new methodologies and technologies quickly
  • Exposure to big data systems is advantageous
  • Good written, verbal communications and teamwork skills with proven research publication skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain an inquisitive and highly communicative approach to work in our fast paced industrial research environment
